CELEBRATION OF THE UNESCO CHAIR IN BIOETHICS WORLD BIOETHICS DAY 2017

Unit UNESCO Chair in Bioethics from University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Grigore T. Popa” Iasi, ROMANIA  celebrated the World Bioethics Day on 18th October in the Society of Physicians and Naturalists, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Gr. T. Popa Iasi, ROMANIA. The ceremony was opened by representative of UNESCO chair, associate professor Elena TOADER, head of UNESCO Chair in Bioethics, Iasi, ROMANIA, which highlighted the importance of the event.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the University staff Professor Monica HANCIANU vice–rector International Relations and Academic Partnerships University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Grigore T. Popa”, Iasi and Professor Beatrice Gabriela IOAN, vice-rector of Institutional Strategy University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Grigore T. Popa “, Iasi, Romania who addressed congratulations to Steering Committee of the Unit  (approved on 12th April 2017, officially inaugurated on 21th September, 2017) and marked, in the opening speech, the importance of participating in world-class events dedicated to Bioethics.

At the World Bioethics Day ceremony  were also present and addressed greetings, Professor Anca TRIFAN – President of the Romanian Society of Gastroenterology, Professor Cristina CIJEVSCHI PRELIPCEAN – Institute of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Iasi, ROMANIA,  Professor Cristian LUPAŞCU – Coordinator of the liver transplantation Center Iaşi, ROMANIA and Mrs. Maria VASILESCU – President Equity in Health Association – ROMANIA, collaborator at the event.

In the workshop on the topic: “Equitable access of patients with hepatitis B and C to innovative treatments without interferon. Eradication of viral hepatitis by 2030 – WHO priority” there were 5 presentations.

  1. Professor Anca TRIFAN: “WHO objectives in eradicating chronic viral hepatitis C – how does Romania respond?” with key messages for „A world where viral hepatitis transmission is stopped and everyone living with viral hepatitis has access to safe, affordable and effective prevention, care and treatment services” and „ All people should receive the hepatitis services they need and such services should be of adequate quality”.
  2. Professor Carol STANCIU: “Exclusion of the patient with HCV and mild / moderate fibrosis to the chance of healing – a non-ethical anathema “the ends presentation with “The Golden Rule: treating others as you would like to be treated”.
  3. In the presentation “Ethics of listing for liver transplantation in a small volume center” lecturer Ph. Irina GÎRLEANU reveals encounters and ethical dilemmas generated by liver transplantation both in the theoretical field and in medical practice.
  4. PhD, Ph. Gheroghiţă BALAN “Equity and justice in the follow-up of malpractice cases” deals with malpractice issues in an ethical and legal approach.
  5. Associate Professor Elena TOADER: “Equality, justice and equity – ethical and legal connections ” makes a shift from summarizing the significance of equity, equality and justice in the health context to case studies with the ethical and legal analysis of the concepts involved in the c chronic liver disease as the real problem of public health worldwide.

At the event WBD were exposed posters who have completed  the topics presented in the thematic framework at the works.
